HPS Pharmacies wish to give notice that Sandoz, in consultation with the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), has initiated a drug recall for Metformin Sandoz 500mg (blister packs) as follows:

  • E930006 (Expiry: December 2025)
  • E930024 (Expiry: January 2026)
  • E930027 (Expiry: January 2026)
  • E930028 (Expiry: January 2026)
  • E930037 (Expiry: February 2026)
  • E930035 (Expiry: February 2026)
  • E930036 (Expiry: February 2026)
  • E930076 (Expiry: April 2026)
  • E930077 (Expiry: April 2026)
  • E930078 (Expiry: April 2026)
  • E930093 (Expiry: May 2026)
  • E930094 (Expiry: May 2026)
  • E930100 (Expiry: May 2026)
  • E930114 (Expiry: June 2026)
  • E930115 (Expiry: June 2026)

This drug recall was initiated as the N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) impurity was detected in five batches. The additional batches included in the recall are deemed to be at risk of becoming out of specification within their shelf life.

Please inspect your stock and quarantine any defect stock. If HPS Pharmacies provide imprest management services to your facility, an HPS representative will inspect all stock stored in the designated imprest areas at the earliest opportunity. All affected products will be quarantined for return to the supplier, and HPS Pharmacies will arrange for replacement stock as soon as possible. An HPS Pharmacies staff member will contact senior medical and nursing staff if there is an immediate impact to your facility.

Retain this notice in a prominent position, including in other related business units for one month. Report any problems identified with medicines, vaccines or medical devices to the TGA.
