HPS Pharmacies wish to advise that all brands of ranitidine are unavailable following their suspension from the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG). The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) suspended these medicines on the basis that their quality is unacceptable due to contamination with the impurity, N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA).
Possible alternatives to ranitidine include:
- An alternate H2 receptor antagonist;
- A proton pump inhibitor;
- An antacid; and/or
- Diet and lifestyle modification.
Retain this notice in a prominent position, including in other related business units for one month. Report any problems identified with medicines, vaccines or medical devices to the TGA.
