Drug Discontinuation

HPS Pharmacies wish to give notice that Menarini will be discontinuing Edecrin^® in Australia as follows:

Edecrin^® Tablets
Etacrynic acid 25mg
ARTG 96871

It is anticipated that supplies of Edecrin^® will be exhausted between September and December 2021. Menarini recommends that doctors review all patients currently prescribed Edecrin^® before supplies run out.

Alternative diuretic options that may be considered include:

• Another loop diuretic (e.g. furosemide, bumetanide);
• Thiazide and related diuretics (e.g. hydrochlorothiazide, chlortalidone, indapamide); and
• An aldosterone antagonist (spironolactone, eplerenone).

Retain this notice in a prominent position, including in other related business units for one month. Report any problems identified with medicines, vaccines or medical devices to the TGA.
