HPS Pharmacies wish to advise that LINK Healthcare, in consultation with the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) have given notice of a drug recall of:
Akineton® 2mg Tablets x 100
Aust R: 12792
Batch Numbers: 327028D, 236698D, 255238D
This recall has been issued due to the potential for the medicine to lose potency sooner than expected.
This recall of Akineton® 2mg tablets represents all biperiden hydrochloride currently distributed in Australia. To meet the needs of patients until supplies are reliable, LINK Healthcare have sourced alternative supplies, which are expected to be available from next week.
2mg biperiden hydrochloride tablets will be available under the Special Access Scheme (SAS) for immediate supply to Category A (seriously ill patients), pending the completion and forwarding of the Category A SAS form by the medical practitioner. Category B forms must be completed and approved by the TGA, prior to any supply. While Akineton® tablets are included in the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS), SAS medicines are generally not eligible for PBS subsidies.
Please inspect your stocks and quarantine all units from the above batches of Akineton® tablets for return to your supplier. Any items supplied by HPS Pharmacies should be returned to the pharmacy for processing.
Retain this notice in a prominent position, including in other related business units until normal supply resumes. Report any problems identified with medicines, vaccines or medical devices to the TGA.
Should you require further information regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact your pharmacist at HPS Pharmacies, or LINK Healthcare on 1800 181 060.
Information regarding expected dates for supply may vary subject to delays which are out of our control. HPS Pharmacies does not accept responsibility for such changes but will endeavour to keep our clients updated as information is made available from drug manufacturers or wholesalers.
