HPS Pharmacies wish to advise of a short-term interruption to the supply of:
Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate Injection
|Contents||4mg/1mL Vial||8mg/2mL Vial|

A shortage has affected all brands of dexamethasone sodium phosphate injection available in Australia.
Emergency supplies of the Aspen brand of injection have recently been depleted due to the transfer of this product to Alphapharm, and an interruption of supply from the manufacturer has now created a shortage. Consequently, the increased demand has also resulted in a supply shortage of the Hospira brand.
Hospira expect to restore supplies from 7th November, and Alphapharm expect their next shipment in early December 2014.
In the interim, Hospira have released an emergency supply which should be reserved for use in patients of high clinical need. It is recommended that an alternative medicine is used whenever feasible.
This notice does not apply to oral dexamethasone tablets, and there are no concerns with the quality of dexamethasone injection vials currently in circulation.
Please retain this notice in a prominent position, including in other related business units as a reminder for all staff members until supply returns to normal.
Report any problems identified with medicines, vaccines or medical devices to the TGA.
Should you require further information regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact your pharmacist at HPS Pharmacies, Hospira Customer Service on 1300 046 774 (option 1), or Alphapharm on 1800 028 365.
Information regarding expected dates for supply may vary subject to delays which are out of our control. HPS Pharmacies does not accept responsibility for such changes but will endeavour to keep our clients updated as information is made available from drug manufacturers or wholesalers.
