Drug Availability

HPS Pharmacies wish to provide an update following notices from Pfizer Australia and the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) of the discontinuation of:

Prostin® F2 alpha (dinoprost trometamol)
5mg/1mL injection ampoule
Aust. R 12792

This discontinuation does not affect the continuing supply of Prostin® E2 (dinoprostone) vaginal gel or Prostin® VR (alprostadil) injection ampoules.

While no equivalent medicine is currently registered in Australia, HPS Pharmacies are pleased to announce that alternative products are now available under the Special Access Scheme for immediate supply to seriously ill patients, pending completion and forwarding of the Category A SAS form by the medical practitioner. Non urgent supplies require completion of a Category B form, and approval by the TGA prior to use.

The three alternative products require up to 21 days for delivery, and are guaranteed to have a shelf life of at least 12 months when stored under refrigerated conditions.

Carboprost (Prostinfenem®, Prostin® 15M) 0.25mg solution for injection
Dinoprost (Enzaprost F®) 5.0mg, 5 x 1mL solution for injection

Retain this notice in a prominent position, including in other related business units for one month. Report any problems identified with medicines, vaccines or medical devices to the TGA.

Should you require further information regarding this matter, please contact your pharmacist at HPS Pharmacies.

Information regarding expected dates for supply may vary subject to delays which are out of our control. HPS Pharmacies does not accept responsibility for such changes but will endeavour to keep our clients updated as information is made available from drug manufacturers or wholesalers.
