The supply interruption of Prostin® E2 (dinoprostone) Vaginal Gel is due to manufacturing difficulties and does not affect the safe use of products currently available in Australia.

Whilst no generic equivalent medicine is currently registered in Australia, HPS Pharmacies are pleased to announce that internationally registered products will be available in seven to ten days. Access will be under the Special Access Scheme for immediate supply to seriously ill patients, pending completion and forwarding of the Category A SAS form by the medical practitioner. Non urgent supplies require completion of a Category B form, and approval by the TGA prior to use.

It should be noted that misoprostol reduces the time to delivery, however it also increases the force of contractions, and the risk of uterine tachysystole and foetal adverse events.

Retain this notice in a prominent position, including in other related business units for one month. Report any problems identified with medicines, vaccines or medical devices to the TGA.
