Drug Recall

 

HPS Pharmacies wish to advise that Gilead Sciences Pty Ltd have given notice of an
urgent drug recall of:

Ambisome® powder for injection vial

Contents amphotericin B, 50mg
Aust R 53783
Batch No. 042293AA
Expiry Date 30/09/2015

 

This recall is because it has been identified that there is a risk that this batch may have been contaminated with Sphingomonas yanoikuyae during manufacture.

The recall is a precautionary measure as contamination has not been demonstrated, and adverse reactions have not been reported for this batch. Sphingomonas yanoikuyae has not been reported to cause disease in humans.

Please inspect your stocks and quarantine all units from the above batch number for return to your supplier who will arrange for refund or replacement. Any items from these batches supplied by HPS Pharmacies should be returned to the pharmacy for processing.

There is not expected to be any interruption of supply as alternative batches are available.
This recall notice does not affect any other batches of Ambisome® or medicines supplied by Gilead Sciences.

Please retain this notice in a prominent position, including other related business units for one month in case stock is in transit. Report any problems identified with medicines, vaccines or medical devices to the TGA.
